The World Health Organization (WHO) said Tuesday that it was calling for an urgent global response to the global coronavirious pandemic, which has claimed nearly 5 million lives in the past week alone.
The disease is now spreading rapidly, infecting more than 6.7 million people in 15 countries.
The virus has also struck some Caribbean countries, including Haiti, the Dominican Republic and Cuba.
A coronaviral pandemic is a global phenomenon, but experts say the outbreak has affected just a handful of countries.
Some have been hit hardest by the pandemic: In the Dominican, nearly 200 people have died, and there are about 10,000 cases of the virus in the Caribbean islands of Guadeloupe, Martinique and St. Martin.
