This week, a new survey showed that more than half of American adults have never tried a puffed rice roll, which can be prepared in a variety of ways and contain brown rice protein.
The survey, which was conducted by food research firm MarketBasket, found that 44% of Americans had tried puffed grains at least once, and the average American eats nearly 2.6 cups of brown rice a day.
However, it was not clear how much brown rice was required to get the same weight loss as a traditional rice roll.
According to MarketBaskets, the average person needs about 2.5 cups of cooked rice per day in order to lose at least 10 pounds.
The new study is just one in a series of studies showing that Americans have been eating too much brown rices and not enough whole grains, which has led to obesity, diabetes, and other health problems.
MarketBasket’s study found that people with more brown rice had higher rates of weight loss, as well as more muscle mass and a greater ability to perform basic tasks.
The study was funded by the National Institutes of Health.ABC News’ Matt Bewig contributed to this report.
